| We've just started the layout and planning on the backyard 3' mini-halfpipe and I've run into a snag. When I use to ride ramp (BMX), we used 8'+ diameter transitions. When we built skate ramps, it was a little more on the 6-7' side. I'm 'guessing' that we should go with around a 7' diameter transition but I'm not exactly sure as I've never heel'd on a ramp. Now keeping in mind the Logan and Evan are gonna be using the ramp and I'll probably be sheeting it horizontally (slower), what do any of you ramp riders suggest for a transition diameter??? Also, it's probably gonna be pretty wide (I'm trying to squeeze about a 16' width back there but that may change to 12') so I'll have plenty of room for a roll-in. Has anyone used a roll-in on HEELYS and is it worth my time to build? I'm not talking about cutting a notch style roll-in, but an on deck tombstone style roll-in. We were hoping to start laying wood by this weekend but I'm not going to start till I make those few critical decisions. |

| Roll ins are great but you want the roll part at the right angle. |

Just say the "grind" video. I've never seen anyone pull off a footy grind before. *Props* |

7.5 trannys are like .. pretty standard for skateboard and inline.
8 is BMX.
I wouldn't go shorter than 7.

| OK, so I have a serious delay. I talked with my neighbor today and it looks like they're gonna be doing some serious remodeling. Prob with that is ... city inspectors!! If they spot a 1/2 pipe in the backyard >> I'm DOOMED!!!!! The neighbor says they're not only residing the front of the house, but starting on an addition which will have my soon-to-be half pipe in plain view. That means I have to wait till his addition is DONE before I can even start. I had thought about a garage setup of sorts but still want to do a backyard setup ultimately. When I was picking up a grind rail today, I ran across this >> CLICK (which is cheaper at Target than at DICK'S). The guy in the sk8 dept at DICK'S said it's a pretty decent ramp but the transitions are quick (supposedly 5'dia). He said with a 3' tall ramp, it shouldn't be as noticable and people seem to love the ramp for an instant fix. So it got me thinking.... maybe 2 of these in the garage till I can build the backyard ramp?? Maybe 4 for a nice wide setup (they're only 4' wide so 2 on each side). Has anyone ever run across these?? Are they worth the $200/ea?? Should I just hold out till my neighbors are done?? Does anyone else know of a temp fix for an in garage halfpipe?? |

| I've got a pretty large garage but I have to keep my lawn tractor, tools/bench, yard gear, and usually my Polo (rare car) in there so a flatbottom deck won't work. I could build 2 quarters and use the concrete to park the car between but then there's the transition from fast extra smooth concrete to wood so I'm worried about the bump. I'd love to build a full size ramp in the garage if I could figure out how to smooth out the transitions as it would be out of the weather and cooled/heated so it would get year round useage. |

| My garage has barn style rafters so they're very high. I do have some shelving that is at about 7' but I can work around that. |

Vertical space is no prob. The flat bottom is the problem. I can't use a decked flat bottom in the garage as I need the floor space. Instead of a true halfpipe, I'd need to do 2 quarters with the concrete floor as the flatbottom. I don't mind leaving my Polo outside (hell... it's outside right now!) but if we get a storm through here (hurricane ... which we will, it's just a matter of time) my Polo HAS to be in the garage.
I'd love to use ready made quarters like the 10eighty's, but I'm kind doubtful on quality at less than $200. They have a pretty sharp edge so I think they would transition nicely into the concrete. That will be my problem if I build one. |
