Just found a website I found amusing/interesting:
http://www.frixo.com/m5-north.asp
Gives LIVE average speed data for all the UK's major roads.
This was taken from the M5 Motorway (SW England, Cider Country ) at about 11pm:
Considering that most of the traffic at this time of night will be the bigger delivery lorries which are limited to about 55mph (A whole 30mph under that Junction 23 average) , this must mean that the few lonely car drivers on that stretch are doing at least an average of 30mph more than 85mph: that is at least 115mph average - LOL, from personal experience I have seen deserted stretches where it's not uncommon to have people pass you doing 130+ mph, so I can well believe it.
Funny how they log that the average speed on some junctions is well over the speed limit of 70mph, but they don't bother charging anyone because the cameras used to detect the average speeds aren't the kind they can use to ticket people, they're just to show congestion.
There's a road up north where it's a long way between towns so everyone does huge speeds, but since it's never congested it's not listed on that site - if it was I bet the average would be like 125mph LOL - and if you did that speed and the police come up behind you, they'd only flash their lights to say: get out of the way you slow son of a ***** LOL - the Police up there like to cruise at the 155mph limiter. (Have seen this happen: I guess it beats taking hours to get anywhere |

Lucky! There is 150 mile stretch of the most boring road EVER between my town and the rest of the state. The speed limit is 60 - 65 mph. AND they ENFORCE that My sister got 3 tickets. I have yet to get one, but that's only because the speedo in my car is 5mph slow so I think I'm speeding, and when I drive with my boss she won't let me go more than 65mph Seriously it's like 3 hrs of nothing but wheat fields, desert and corn.

jeez, and I thought the Fountain cops were bad (always do 10+ more then the posted speed limit driving with their radars on)
We have roads all around here that people do reckless speeds, but our main roads I rarely ever see anyone pass 70 on them (Academy, Powers, or Circle). The interstates are a little different, in which I will usually see bikes in the 100+ range, but cars know their limits especially since the state patrolmen on the interstate drive Camaros...
We do have one road that if it appeard on the website, it would be at least triple its posted speed. Its a county road out in the middle of no where that just so happens to have EXACTLY 1/4th mile flat piece of road (it then tapers uphill on one end and a bridge marks the other). So if you add the odds:
1 quarter mile stretch of land + 1 really nice piece of pavement = 2 car drag racing...
Even the people (or I think its person now) who actually LIVE on the road does more then double on the road... And the best thing is it is out of El Paso county line, but right next to it, so the cops for the county the road lies in are to far away to dick around with us... |
