Attempted my first grind today on the torches: practised the jumping on and off as per drummer's vid on youtube which the little girl with him seems to make look so easy lol, (p.s. is drummer on here too? Smile ), and yep, I got a good run up from an angle, and yep, I fell right on my arse Very Happy

Man, I think I broke a gluteal muscle which I'm probably gonna need for my gym sesssion tomorrow, oh well, but that ain't gonna stop me, I'm gonna keep trying until I can do almost as well as HeelyHaily, man that girl has skill Very Happy

IDK if anyone will agree with me on this one, but I learned (practiced grinding) on a park bench/picnic table.

It kinda got me to learn the planting of the feet on the coping

From this point, I got more and more comfortable and I learned where I could plant my feet (you get a feeling for the grind plates)

Then I started learning on rails, but still a majority of my grinds are me on 90 degree edging (small ledges/benches/stairs) when I skate down town

Cool, I'll try that, thanks. I guess I am lucky that there is a small park with a few low round rails not far from me, but I would also like to try the grinding on 90 degree angles too. Might have to be careful grinding on public benches tho, because I wouldn't want people to think I am damaging public propety - I notice grinding is quite a "rough" procedure - there's not really any way to do it gently. yeah, i learned the same way as mav, on a ledge, except mine was about 1 foto and a half off the ground at my grandmas house (it was her garden box) it had bumps on it so it was hard to go for more then a inch but it got me use to jumping on stuff. (its flat now)

The one thing to watch out for ME is the concrete ledges... Waxxed or not, its gonna mess up your express plates BAD...

If you do attempt to play with ledging, make sure it is metallic... Plus it makes your grinds look better...
