I started on some rebels. . i found they helped me learn to do a basic forward glide without falling back because i could take the back wheel out of the back foot then if i ever slipped my foot would just stop on it's heel.

But I noticed that due to the small wheels, the rebels were difficult to use on normal UK streets, which are quite rough, so I thought some mega's would be great, and they do mean I can skate a lot more places, but I was wondering if I was missing anything in not having a pair of the more common one-wheeled heelies (not Mega)?

So, what are the benefits to the standard one wheel heely or "fats", i.e., are any tricks easier in them than in the mega-wheels?

I can imagine walking whilst looking normal in them would be a little easier, because with the mega-wheels you end up walking like you're in high-heels, which as a male is not really my thing Very Happy

Ehm I dont think it makes them easier to do tricks with fats but others might disagree. And fats let you walk easier with the wheels on.

(I got megas and dont like walking with them on because of what you said that it looks like high heels

I can't tolerate FATS anymore, and neither can about a third of the people on this site...

Megas are MUCH easier to roll in.

I agree with Slice

The only advantage of FATS is that it's easier to walk in. Other than that, tricks are harder, you fall over every crack in the ground.......they're pretty much crap for performance compared to megas. The one thing they can be better at is indoor rolling.

Sweet, thanks for the quick feedback. I'll stick to the Mega's in the Torches for now then, and will probably eventually get the FATS just to complete my set and for stealthing into the shopping malls where the nazi's don't want you to skate LOL.

I honestly only like megas for vert.

Spins IMO are alot easier on fats. Walking is alot easier and cracks feel about the same to me. Only downisde to fats is after standing in em on certain models, you can really feel the wheel there, I get the same on megas but after standing in em all day and finally at the end of the day it happens but in fats it happens sooner.

I agree with seth, I find pretty much every flatland trick easier on fats, apart from when your heeling on really rough or uneven ground.

I like Fats to be honest with you... I started out in Fats with Atomics, and then I obtained my Rails which I learned how to "gimp" along on the half pipe...

In my opinion, Fats are excellent for street skating to keep yourself hidden from the Nazis. They also look cleaner then the Mega/Grinds that are out now (Evos, Torches, etc) because they actually look like SHOES.

When it comes to the Megas, I am a 20 year old male who has become used to walking in high heels lol. It actually hurts my legs now not to be in Heelys when I walk because I am not escalated (and I have worn nothing else for a year and a handful of months).

I am partial to the Big Dueces though when rolling around on asphalt and other places with those pesky rocks though, because it seems to just slide right in the gap of the wheel instead of getting stuck between.

When it breaks down to it, if you're gonna be tricking on your new kicks, you have to figure out what style is best for you, and start from there. Keep your options wide (such as buying a pair of Evos/Torch/Pro Model (?)) for vert, but if you like flat land and street skating, buy a couple of GTs/Five-0's for that grind option.

Thats my two cents on the matter, and I think 2/3s of HC can agree Wink

Good idea about the Big Deuces. . . I hadn't seen them before, so I'll definitely try to find a pair of those to stick in place of my Megas for avoiding little rocks, thanks maverick!

I was wondering if the fats wheels are the same size as the bigger 5023 (2x2) wheel in the back of my Rebels? If so, is wearing the rebels with just the back wheel very similar to just wearing 1 wheel heelys with FATS?

Nope.

It's more set in the back, so it'll be really painful on your ankles/shins without the front wheels.

And in response to Mav......
BD'S SUCK.
I get caught in more rocks on them than I do with megas Razz
And they're the slowest heelys wheels made.
Other than that.......tricks are a little easier to do in FATS, but you fall a lot more b/c of your feet catching an edge on the ground. It depends on what matters more to you......stealth (gotta hide those wheels from the nazis), or performance and stability.

pretty much lol.

Besides.....no matter what bearings you put in, megas are always gonna be faster on street.

the black bearings in my bd's taht came from my tevos are faster then the yellow ones for some reason, and i havent gotten any rocks stuck in my wheel bays either, the bays in my spidey evos (which i only wore big deuces in) are perfect, no scratches or anything just some dirt.

and yeah, merrie, rebels have normal fats, idk why some people consider them a different wheel. theyre fats just different size. if your on a medium size, small fats fit in the back wheel bay but teh ride is different, not signifiacantly but to the point where you get tired alot quicker and hit the brakes alot easier.

Megas may be faster on the street (i still have yet to expirience it) but when it breaks down to it, I get a lot more rocks stuck in my megas when I use them on street. Hence why my BD's are in my Furys and my Megas are in my Evos

once you learn to kickswitch, try it in BD's, and see how fast you lose speed Razz
