Just say the "grind" video. I've never seen anyone pull off a footy grind before. *Props* |

| eBay link or you can get em here for $25. That still leaves you needing knee/elbow protection though. |

I don't sell Gel Sliders!!!?!
Darn .. I buy them every chance I get cuz their hard to come by in my size?!
Now remember .. sliders are for street when you don't want to wear a helmet and knee pads and everything. They are awesome for everyday wear.
But if you're doing vert .. especially high vert, then get yourself a helmet and a good set of kneepads. I use TSG Force II. |

@merlin
(I just typed this and realized that it seems a bit accusatory... it isn't, I'm just explaining myself...) The Gel Sliders don't look like there's much protection against hyperextension of your wrist (bending it backwards too far)... Scrape protection means not much if I break my wrist... Or is there something that I need to experience/see?
Do you use/recommend elbow pads... if so what type, and do you have a link for the knee pads (TSG Force II)? More info appreciated too. Thanks.
@mrcochip
As far as the other ones (K2 Exo's...)
1. How do the fit (eg. comfort)
1a. Do they feel good?
1b. Do they get hot?
1c. Do the wrist guards make sense? (my others don't even make sense).
2. Sleekness... they look sleek, are they clunky?
3. The strap/attchment to hold it on your leg/arm/wrist... is it velco + elastic?
3a. If it is velco, is there enough that the hooks don't dig into the other fabric and destroy it?
4. How well do they protect from falls?
5. Do they slip around much
Finally, thanks again everyone. |

They fit me pretty well, and don't slide around (part of the reason I got new pads in the first place).
The knee and elbow pads are held in place with velcro/elastic. The wrist guard is elastic and black ice (scrape guard), has non-elastic straps, and good wrist protection.
I think they look pretty sleek - dark silver and black. They're really not clunky at all.
The wrist guards are good fall protection. The knees I tested and they feel solid too. I haven't found a way to test the elbow pads w/o faliing (falling on elbows is hard anyway), but they're in the set so I think they'll be good too.

OK - maybe I should clarify.
Gel sliders are great for everyday .. they provide GREAT protection for next to nothing.
Heelers, are minimalist by nature. So that's why they're great. If you're gonna strap on a ton of gear to get around .. knee pads .. helmet .. etc .. then Heeling just isn't worth it. Not for day-to-day.
That said, you need to have a certain level of proficiency before you can travel around town in your Heelys. If you're just learning, then gear up!!
For day-to-day, I keep a pair of gel sliders in my laptop bag .. or my messenger bag. If I'm going out and skating around in the city, its light weight, and next to nothing to put on.
On the topic of whether it provides good protection. This is my response. The reason why gel sliders work is because it displaces the force when you fall forward. Its the same principle how parkour practitioners can jump from 5 stories up and not kill themselves - because the force is displaced on impact.
When you fall forward, if you just come to a grinding halt, all the force goes into damaging your body. But if you displace the force, by rolling .. or SLIDING .. then its diffused and doesn't hurt you at all.
That's how sliders work .. they force you to slip out of the fall. It seems counter-intuitive .. but it works. If you stay on your shoes and the sliders (not your knees) then you can come out of most falls without a scratch.
If any of you have seen me fall in real life on vert - I take some real doosies. And then I get up like nothing happened .. but that's because I've learned how to fall (yeah .. the hard way). Most of my falls are sliding.
Hope that helps.

I have only had my heelys for maybe a month now, but I don't fall if I'm on a good floor... it's the unexpected occurances that have caused all of my falls so far (eg. rocks, random cracks, etc...) I consider myself a beginner as I have only been heeling for a month, IMO I am farily proficient at the basics (eg. rolling around, etc)

How well do they slide on less than perfect surfaces, such as asphalt/cement (which caused my last bad fall), and how easy is it to slide if you're on your feet & wrists at the same time, don't your shoes grip the ground?
Also, is there a good tutorial on how to fall? I know to roll, but that's difficult when there's less than a second between when you start, and when you stop and when you hit the pavement...

To both Mrco and Merlyn, how functional are your hands when in their respective wrist guards... eg. could you write, hold a slurpee, etc? |
