There is ashow on MTV called Nitro Circus where basically a group of pro motorcycle, skydivers and extreme sports guys do crazy stuff. For example they base jumped off of a hotel in vegas, hydroplaned a dirtbike on a lake, skydived without a parachute andattempted to backflip a monstertruck. And on this show last sunday one of the guys tries on a pair of Heelys for the first time and says "these are the coolest things ever but i have to get used to them first" and a whole bunch of other stuff but i forget what it was. ANYWAY he straps on a motorcycle helmet and starts at the top of this superlong pretty steep driveway. After 30 yards his front foot comes down and WHAM faceplant, ripped up elbow and side. It was pretty funny too. So even Heelys gets put on MTV shows.
(Sorry for the long narative, just wanted to share the love.) |

| it was kind of a shock to hear it, but it was funny, afterwards one of the guys watching told the guy with heelys that he was "so fat and worthless" in a friendly sort of way. Great laughs were had by all. |

| Sounds like it was making fun of, and showing Heelys as crap than actually promoting them. Sure, he talks big at first, but do they show him having fun and learning flatland tricks or getting some Torch and grinding? No, they show him do the stupidest thing a new heeler can do, and taking damage in the process. At least he had a helmet on. :\ |

| No it wasnt making fun of them. But you gotta think of what the show is about: doing the stupidest things they can find, They tried to flip a monster truck! He said it was his first time, and plus its not like they had 10 min to film a whole heeling video, it was a 30 sec clip. |

ok, so it's a Jackass type show. Lovely. How is that good, again? Maybe this is a case of "any exposure is good exposure?" Maybe that's true since it's adults trying them, rather than single-digit aged kids... not that they'd be allowed to have kids faceplanting on MTV.
Anyway, I'd have to see it. Has anyone found the clip online anywhere?
In the end, unless they're showing someone like Merlyn dropping in and grinding a killer halfpipe, I won't be happy. |

I think it's true that some people are always going to think of heelys as "just for kids" or whatever . . . but personally I'm not going to let that bother me - It took decades for skateboarding to become accepted as cool - but whether it's at the shops or the skatepark, I am receiving far more positive comments than negative ones when out wearing my heelys, from kids and adults alike. Some people love to hate, so there will always be some people who think heelys suck, but meh, who gives a rats ass? |
