Why would you want size 28-31 wheels? Is that in millimeters? It's just that I have no idea where you got those numbers, since they don't seem to conform to the known sizes of any mega wheels.
Since you have two pairs of Torch and some Escapes, I assume you have some mega's somewhere that you could measure to learn the size of wheel you would need? But since you ask for help and I'm the kind of person who doesn't mind giving it, ok, I'll give you the numbers I got from my digital callipers when I stuck some Large Mega's and Megaverts in them.
Large Mega's (for US size 9+):
diameter: 48mm
width: 45mm
the smaller skateboard wheels are usually the PRO ones that are intended purely for use in perfectly smooth indoor parks and pipes, I've seen them as small as 50mm but not seen many smaller ones around yet although I'd bet they do exist. . . the bigger skateboard wheels are street ones. You usually have to buy bigger wheels than you need and cut them down in at least one direction. To alter the width and yet not have to make your own holes for the bearings you can either do this by cutting two skate wheels in (almost) half and using the smaller halves to stick back together (so you need all 4 originals to make your 2 wheels) whilst keeping them true (no easy task) as Merlyn does in this thread. Or if you have access to the right equipment (mills/lathes etc) maybe at school or know someone who has a suitable workshop. . .then you can do it by milling down a single wheel and making your own bearing holes (no need to cut in half/restick)
The alternative method that I also consider is using 2 Inline wheels stuck together to make each half of your megavert... since you can already get inlines in the right (46 or 48mm) diameter if you get the grindrock/antirocker kind that go on aggressive skates. . . this could save you a little bit of the work. Although the profile of inlines rolling surface is usually not flat. . . so again either buy bigger than you need and mill down or try to get the PINKYs (flat edged) kind that I linked you to in the other thread where I was helping out.
But you're gonna need some skill and patience for a project like this - again, i dunno where you got those numbers from (the 28 and 31?). If you thought modifying an existing heelys wheel (like the big deuce) was hard, which already has many of the correct dimensions, then I'd suggest getting a bit of help from someone on this one mate - It can be tougher than it looks |
