Martin is on the Move

Who would have thought that a pair of shoes could take someone so far? Fremont Ross sophomore Jordan Martin did not think anything of it when he bought his first pair of heelys two years ago.
"I just bought the shoes, but I didn't know how to do any tricks on them," said Jordan. It was not until he went on the internet and went to the website called HeelyChat.com, and watched videos on YouTube of people doing different stunts and tricks with the shoes. "I learned how to do the tricks by watching the videos, and I just loved it," he stated.
Recently, he traveled to a skate park in Connecticut called Vertigo where he tried out for the national skate team sponsored by Heelys and made the cut. The team travels across the country and puts on demos at various skate parks to show off their skills. At the demos, the team is filmed to make movies showing off their skills.
The team is scheduled to make a trip to Disney World the first weekend in May where they'll put on a demo the first day and receive a free pass into the park the second day. All of their flights and accommodations are paid for, not to mention all the free Heelys gear whenever they need it.
"I won't be able to make it to the first couple demos. After the trials are over and I get all the official stuff out of the way, I'll find out if I'm on the team," commented Martin.
Much like the worlds of skateboarding and BMX, there are celebrities that skaters like Jordan look up to. "My influence is a guy named David Chau. He's the Heelys National Team Captain. He was dared to drop in on a half pipe, so he did."
When it comes to doing tricks, Jordan likes to challenge himself. One of his favorites is the vertflip. "I'm pretty much famous at the skate park in town because no one else can do that kind of stuff on heelys." If he gets on, being able to do the vertflip at a higher level is one of the things Jordan is looking forward to most about his upcoming trips, in addition to just hanging out with the whole team.
He just recently purchased his sixth pair of Heelys shoes, and he is sure that they will not be his last.
"The best part is skating with other people and just having fun. You don't do it for the money. You don't do it for the fame. You do it because you love doing it."

the demos are on both days of the weekend, the free passes are given at the begining and are allowed to be used when ever theres free time (usually after the demos) and according to shawn, you and him made the cut......to try to make the cut....

this is like when emma tried out for the team the first time and told kids at her school she was on team heelys....
