One day heelingforlyfe and Heely Hailey go to the skate park. They find a nice steep handrail and decide to play. Being polite, heelingforlyfe lets Hailey go first. "No no" Hailey insisted, "please, you first."

So heelingforlyfe rolls back and sets up for her first trick on the handrail. But instead of actually going, she just stares at it intently. After a few minutes of waiting, Heely Hailey starts to get impatient (its a very very alluring rail), "Um .. are you going?"

"Hold on .. just one more second", heelingforlyfe says (seemingly contemplating which trick to pull). But she doesn't move a muscle. Several more minutes pass.

Now, quite antsy Heely Hailey complains, "Hey! are you going or not?!"

"Please! just one more second", heelingforlyfe replies (still not attempting a trick on the rail).

Finally Heely Hailey can't take anymore and blurts "Michelle!! Stop stalling and grind!"

We know you can vert.

The question becomes, can you vert while dodging overripe tomatoes?

HAHA - yeah, I deserved that.

And that might be a great incentive for me to practice!! My new tricks can double as evasion tactics!!

- okay that was funny.

And OUCH - major SOAP hate. Broox would be mad. But truth is, SOAPers (every single one I have ever talked to) hates Heelys. So I'm not too sympathetic.

Ever been to the Solid Grind forums? The webmaster is almost the only guy paying Heelys any respect, trying to calm down his masses from continual ragging on Heelys, and having marginal success.

Actually a lot of it has to do more with corporate intrigue than just the shoes. HSL bought out Soap, and a lot of Soapers don't think they're continuing the tradition quite right, figuring that HSL just bought out Soap to put grind plates on Heelys.

Why lie? They're right. It's marketing. Soap shoes have a rather limited (although devoted) fanbase and, as I understand it, the Heelys yearly sales figures completely annihilate Soap. OTOH Heelys with grind plates are very much in demand.

I could go for some of that. My grindplates are.. how should I put this?.. "field customized", as in I've worn them down where my feet actually hit. The channels and the rest of the plate aren't exactly separated anymore. They were really too narrow anyway...

Thing is, considering the relative rates of wear of everything, by the time I really need new plates (and I grind constantly), I'm probably going to need new wheels (not bearings, the actual wheels are starting to get worn), and the rubber is starting to split in places and I've been shoving superglue into a couple of cracks in it just behind the grindplate...

Not to mention the whole "wearing the rubber down" business. Front and back.

Although things might be different on the extreme-sport side of things, by the time most people need new plates, they usually need new Heelys.

Yeah - you're right. But Heelys could have made them with removeable grindplates for just one model at least.

This gives us some options. Besides .. its just cool lookin'

Yeah .. and Stefan and Nik (on TEC), they grounded the grindplates down so there is no protrusion on the edge. I thought that was cool - but I never tried it.
