| I decided as a fazshurs day present to myself (OK, I'm like WuTang > fo da chilruns), I'd get a lil' grind rail from DICK'S. So today, me and Lo went there and picked up a 10eighty 7' rail with a kink. We popped out the wheels so we could try it out on the grass and I suprisingly can get on and off pretty good (backside) but the kink is pretty difficult and I haven't crossed it yet. Lo is having troubles getting going and is getting frustrated. Anyone have any tips? (yes we watched all the how to vids). I moved it next to the swingset so he had something to hold on to to get use to the sliding but he's still not grasping the concept. Is a flat rail easier to learn on then an angled rail?? Should I kick up one end so he'll slide downwards?? |

To first learn any grind - try stalling it first (whether frontside/backside/w/e). This teaches you the motion to get onto the rail.
THEN slight slope is the easiest. In TWO ways.
To first learn going down - a sligh slope helps to learn to balance while moving.
Grinding up a slightly angled rail is good too because you can put more power into it and helps slow you down a bit.
Eventually level it out. Then eventually increase the downward slope (more advanced).

| I posted this before the rollback: It's all about proportion. See if you can get him a thinner rail for his smaller plates. |

| My dad is building him a grind rail at his house out of 1.5" round stock 6'long at a downward slope but unfortunatley, pops is a perfectionist so it will be a work of art when he's done (whenever that is) !! Haha. We fitted the 1.5" round stock to Lo's grind plates yesterday and it was a good size. I'm working so much ovetime that I won't have time to build him a rail for awhile so we figured we'd just buy one. It works. I'm gonna take the kink out and angle it soon as he wakes up (yep... he wore himself out!! Haha) |
