Will any skateboard grind wax do for grinding with heelys, or are certain kinds better than others?
You see, I need to lube-up my new grind-pole a little so it doesn't wear my grind-plates much.
Obviously with me being a beginner I'm hoping to find some that's not too slippy but that allows me to slide smoothly. . . or is this done simply by how much you apply etc?
Thanks in advance. |

Haha ...
Wax is wax. We use candle wax when we can't find anything else.
If you don't want it too slippery (which IS kinda dangerous), then just put a little on at a time ..
And a little usually goes a really long way. |

Sweet.thanks for the advice again peeps - I find a little of that too also goes a long way
For now I bought a block of Ledge Butta (recommended by H2) which I will use sparingly as advised and will see how it goes
Thanks again brothers. *big kiss, lol* |

I use candle wax at skateparks, just because I am going to be there for a few hours, and afterwards someone else is gonna take over.
But when I used to inline I would use Senate Wax (about 20 bucks a stick) which lasted me no joke 2 years and I would use that stick once a day minimum.
Candle wax is nice for rails and such, but when you want to wax the lip of a fun box, block wax is better because it can cover a longer area at one time so you spend less time waxing and more time skating.
As for the smoothness, they both do the same in my opinion, but skate wax will last longer (such as rain will was away 90% of candlewax, but about 30% of real skatewax) |

True, Tesco is one of the biggest UK supermarket chains, but we also have a large chain which is (as I understand it) now owned by Walmart, it's called ASDA. We also have J Sainsbury (bit more expensive) and tons of littler stores that are less nationwide. Oops, OT |

While we're on the topic though .. peeps .. DO be considerate of everyone else at the park. A lot of people .. mostly older skateboarders .. don't like it too waxed. Inliners like the rail like glass.
So .. use your better judgment. Just a little goes a long way.

Can you make grind plates to put on the bottom of your heelys.

Depending on what size shoes you wear you could try buying some replacement soap grindplates (intended for the soap shoes which have replaceable plates). . . I'm planning to do this some time when I get round to it. The hard part will be finding a way to incorporate them into the sole of a heely not meant for them in such a way that it won't compromise the durabillity or wearabillity of the shoe. And you're gonna need some STRONG adhesive, some kind of chemical bond i'd suggest that actually fuses the two compounds (plastic of plate with rubber of sole) together.
I'm not offering any guarantees it will work tho, as I haven't done this one yet . . . you're probably better off buying a grind model - there's still a few mega-wheel grind models about if you have the cash, and tons of FATs (like the one in your av) grind shoes around even at sale prices, although since you're asking how to make your own you probably don't? My advice is save up, and sell off stuff you don't need to raise the cash - that's what I'm doing at the mo to recover from my Heelys buying spree |
