Welllp, I just got a hat full of D3O today. Think of it as rubber that's a little like Silly Putty. This is exactly what it feels like: wearing a hat full of rubber plates.
Strengths:
It does fit the contours of your head pretty well. It's not like wearing a helmet-helmet at all.
The material seems to work as advertised. Hitting it with a hammer actually makes it hotter; some of the kinetic energy is being converted to heat.
Weaknesses:
There are gaps between the plates of D3O material, what could go wrong?
I'm pretty sure that you do not want to wear this in lieu of an actual helmet. |

Anywhere from $100-$115, depending on model. From Amazon, anyway. |

Merrie - Vertigo has some if you're interested .. but might be easier to pick it up from UK. But LMK if you're interested .. Skate Park has them for a lot cheaper.

Seems you're right Merlyn... the price here has dropped a lot since I last looked... and it's in a lot more products now... taken off quite nicely. I can see new for around $80 and worn once (didn't fit) for as little as $40 ish...
For a change something is actually quite cheap in the UK |
