OK, so I am a SW fanatic. My girlfriend and I will spend at least 100 bucks a week on Toys and whatnot (last night we drove with our friends 130 miles for 2 Lego sets, 2 bobble heads, Star Wars Risk, and 2 school supply 40 packs). As I've been collecting I have noticed the finer details of how Hasbro and Heelys have many similaritys:

1. All good things have variations:

Hasbro (originally Kenner) started making the toys for SW. Nobody thought it was going to take off, so Kenner started making limited ammounts of toys. When the movie did come out in May, they sold so much they were backed up and had to give the Early Bird certificates to kids to send in on Christmas and they would get their toys in Feb. They also had some pretty cool variation toys only available at certain stores (Most famous is the Sears Cantina set with Tall Blue Snaggletooth in which there are only 2 AFA 85 sets known in existance).

Heelys have the Evolution line. I don't care what anyone else here has to say, in my mind, a pair of Torches and a Pair of evos look almost similar (especially the bottom of the shoe). I am not talking about the color scheme or what not, but the actual STYLE of the shoe, the MATERIAL used to make the shoe, etc. Look at the Rail line. GT and Five-0 are the exact same type of shoe. But then look at your exclusives from Journeys to TSA, you can only get that one shoe at that one store for a limited time.

2. All good things have knockoffs:

Companies like Tomy in Asia decided they would jump on and make their products, but they were always off, and though they are worth money now (because it is illegal to have a Tomy Star Wars toy shipped to America because of the Hasbro Copywrite) they are far insuperior to Hasbro/Kenner in quality. Rose Art was given special permissions to make puzzles (exclusively the 2'x3' Special Edition Trilogy puzzle and the original corkback puzzles), but for a while, they were competing with Hasbro because of novelty and toy rights.

Wheelies... 'nuff said

3. All good things come to an end:

Tom Derby (founder of AFA and Cloud City) once said to a friend of mine "The market will crash. We don't know if it will ever come back up, but toys will not be what they are worth now". Brendon, a good friend of mine and friend of Tom Derby stated "Its all about supply and demand. The new stuff will be worth nothing". Kenner produced limited ammount of Star Wars toys in 1977 - 1983. Actually, there were some odd 92 - 97 carded toys actually realeased, with some variations (Plastic Cape Jawa/Cloth Cape Jawa on Tri-Logo Card). When the kids received them, they didn't just save them in the box. They ripped the Plastic Cape Jawa (check out the price on eBay) and played with it in the Sand Crawler playset, then strapped an M-80 to the toy and blew it to kindom come. If still in box/on card with a clear bubble, that would be almost $10,000. But kids didn't do that. With the release of Power of the Force cards (1997 theater release) you couldn't give those to shop lifters. I help out in a Toy Store on the weekends sometimes and I see these toys, orignally $10.99, selling in the $1.99 bin. A couple of them will sell (I bought my Theater edition Luke for almost 100 bucks), but its just too much and people have it. Same thing with Episode 1 toys. They produced so much for Episode 1, then it was such a let down, noboody wanted to invest in it. Now, Hasbro is taking the same Toy from an Episode 1 box and putting it in a 30th Anniversary box, Clone Wars card, Evolution set, etc. They even had Episode 1 lip balm (yes, I have some).

Look at a model of Predators. They look like shit compared to what they have now (all sleek and sexy like). They also made very limited ammounts, in which is why when they go on eBay, the Dibs topic lights up like a candle. Same thing with the Neos and the Grails. Cool shoes, impossible to find now. But look at the market and there are Atomics and Gelatos out the yin-yang. Look on eBay now and you can get them for pocket change.

4. All good things come to an end:

With Star Wars, they released Episode 3. There is nothing left. Clone Wars was more of a let down then someone kicking my dog, and even the prequel saga was tuned to the younger generation versus the older guys who actually waited in line for a week. The movies are done, and if anyone has walked into a Walmart, Toys R Us, Target, or K-Mart in the past month you'll notice more Indiana Jones toys then Star Wars toys.

The same is with Heelys...

For those people who do not have the attention span of pie and came to the ending of this topic, it really doesn't have much of a point. I can say "Oh, its a fad like collecting toys and will go away" but if you look at Star Wars toys, even though the market is shit right now, there is still a market. At the same time I can't compare the two and state "Oh, Heelys are going to be around forever". I am simply stating that there is a common ground between two things I love and wanted to share with you

The fact that some random high school got SO MANY kids to learn to skate well (backwards .. forwards .. while dancing) .. is very impressive.

Nice. I was going to ask if you collected by your name Razz

I don't do much into the Lightsaber's and Weapons. They can get really pricey and their resale pretty much sucks (same price as you buy it for).

Me, I try to do the Busts and Statues (Gentle Giant, Sideshow, Koto) and I do the Star Wars Lego and I do Bobble Heads. I have some 3 3/4" figures, but once I realized that Hasbro went gay and produced nearly 100 figures just for the Clone Wars card, I decided to go with the Novelty stuff.

So when you say collection, what do you mean, like an entire line (Power of the Force, Saga Line, OTC)?

So far seems to be a Target Exclusive. It has white and red pieces mainly with an exclusive clone trooper mini fig (same scheme as Captain Rex but grey instead of blue). It was 49.99 with I believe 600 pieces, but its just a cool thing to look at.
