Quote: | Did you guys watch the "how to put these things on video?" You unscrew them .. put them on .. size it .. take them off .. tighten it (with some little tool) .. then put it back on .. strap and tighten. The video to put them on is a minute and a half! I was laughing myself silly the whole time. You just gotta be joking. |
!!!!!!!!!!!
I was reading another thread about comparing Togo’s (skates) to Heelys, and I just realized what I really love about Heelys. Heelys are not like skates/scooters/skateboards/segways (hey, why do all those things start with ‘s’).
Heelys are Shoes Evolved.
They are the future.
They are the Homo-Sapien, to the Cro-Magnon (sp?) that I used to wear up until three weeks ago. All those other things (the 4 “s”s) are gadgets, entertaining gadgets, but gadgets non-the-less. And that’s why things like Togos, will never be as good as Heelys
HLS has invented a new shoe that is faster, more convenient, and funnerer (heh) than the shoes that came before it. I honestly think, in the next 10 years we are going to see Heelys, or something very much like them, become the norm.
What does everyone else think? |

I'm guessing you know what evolved is, but if not, it means changed for the better. Homo-Sapien is a human. Cro-Magnon (I havent seen this word in forever, I'm surprised I still remember it) means someone like a caveman. And by gadgets he means something that is made from metal or welded together. Something not as smooth riding as heelys.
And I really like that! Good job! |

Here think of it like this. When you want to go skateboarding, you get your board and you go to the park. But you would never duct-tape your skateboard to your feet and wear it all day everyday. But a lot of times you end up somewhere thinking, "Man I wish I had my board right now"
I like it that Heelys aren't something I have to remember to bring with me, but rather, since they are shoes, they are just the way I get around.
I don't know if I'm makeing sense... Oh well....... |

Mid-late 21st century: "Hey, where's the wheels on that guy's shoes?"
"I don't think he has any."
"Shoes without wheels?! I didn't know they made those!" |

Right now, HSL is primarily marketing to kids....and that's who's primarily wearing them.
In my area, as soon as the kids go to Jr. High, they wouldn't be caught dead in them.
In Japan & Korea, though, I'm told they're used for transporation...
Also for dancing and sport moreso than in the US.
If they're going to be worn by the general population, I think HSL needs to start marketing to High School, College students and young adults...as a means of getting around more quickly (primarily).
At one time I heard that HSL was going to make some for warehouse workers...I know that some of their warehouse workers wear them now.
Finding applications like this and focusing their marketing toward them would go a long ways towards taking Heelys from "novelty" to "necessity"!
Can you imagine if postmen started wearing them?
There needs to be genuine positive benefits to counteract the negative press. |

Merlyn - My dad is a doctor and he was telling me how, in some of the bigger hospitals, the nurses and some of the staff who are running back in forth all day wear roller skates. But of course there are times they have to take them off. I was thinking that Heely's would be PERFECT for that kind of environment.
Great floors
They dont have to change shoes.
some of those hospitals are more than a quarter mile from one end to the other.
Just a thought... |

I don't see why not? If you're very proficient in Heelys, a smooth floor with good grip is certainly safer than rollerblading.
In Canada, the mall partol wear rollerblades. Heelys would be more practical there also.
The trick is some adults that didn't grow up with Heelys may have a hard time mastering it. Its really up to kids nowadays that grow up to adults. So just keep using them.
