I saw these on eBay, and was thinking with winter coming they sound like a good idea, but was wondering if anyone knew anything about so-called "Waterproof" bearings - has anyone ever tried bearings marketed as such, and skated through puddles etc to see if they rust?

I suspect it's just a gimmick, as I can't see how they can really be waterproof - they need a small gap between the inner ring and the shield in order for them to turn, so I thought I'd ask you guys who've done winter heeling before Smile

Solid titanium and ceramic bearings do not rust even in salt water. They're also lighter. Look for those with good lateral performance too.

Yeah, ceramic bearings are the only bearings that i know for a fact do not rust. The only thing is generally ceramic bearings are at least twice as expensive. At least in skating they are.

688s are the same size no matter what they go into. Razz (Can you even buy 608 ceramics?)

Oh yeah, and Hailwax: Your sig pic is horizontal-scroll large. Mind knocking it down to about 2/3rds or so?

LOL, sounds like an interesting story I missed somewhere. If you already explained how you managed to lose them over a cliff without you in them please link me up, but if not let me just ask:

How the heck did you manage that? Very Happy Did you see the cliff coming and jump off of them or something? Laughing

DOH!! I got confused. 608s are the regular size, 688s are Micros. I was wondering if the latter in ceramic exists. Razz

if you watch very, VERY closely, you can see them shoot out from under my feet in a split second.
