...yes.

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRUMBLE!

Let's go down the line, shall we?

Fit

Size 10 Rumbles vs Size 11 Torches.

The sole is hard to take a picture of because the difference is three-dimensional, with the Torches having a slightly curved-up toe and the Rumbles being pancake-flat. The Rumbles are significantly narrower in the middle (where the grindplate on the Torch is). The size 10 Rumbles are just as long as the size 11 torches, but not nearly as wide. Kage mentioned how his Rumbles felt bigger than his other Heelys, Mcro said that the sizes were the same... I figured I'd be the guinea pig (Wheek!) and ended up with the 10's.

When I first got them I was like "Crap. Should have got the 11's." They hurt for a few hours and were uncomfortable for a few more.

But after a day's wearing, they are no longer ouch-tight but rather comfy-snug (the suede breaks in easily), and I'm very, very glad I got the size I did. They are also surprisingly warm. I seriously don't think I'll be wearing any other boots, ever, until these things finally give up the ghost. They're also the first Heelys I've seriously considered wearing wheels-out, as they are real hiking boots and will easily trudge through snow. Smile

Wheels

I really do like them. Hardness-wise, they're about halfway between a Mega and a Mega-Vert- I'll definitely take them vert just to see what happens.. when the snow melts. (The wheels, not the boots. I don't think I could ever ride these vert unless I had a death wish. See below.) The only real problem is that the grooves on them can't stand rough, gravelly surfaces and will become chopped up in a handful of uses. Little actual damage, just looks ugly. (The word Rumble implies it can take it, though..)

Heeling

The Rumble wheel is placed about a centimeter closer to the center of the shoe compared to the Torch.

This takes a bit of getting used to. It's really easy to lean too far back and start scraping the heel brake. I know I'll get used to this sooner or later but they really shouldn't have done it. Sad

The inevitable axle fight

I won, but it took two tools, the drawer trick, and way too much time. It wasn't the usual "pop it once and it stays popped" either. Someone needs to do some sanity checks on the threading of these axles.

Verdict

Buy Rumbles while the weather's still cold.

This big boy 'wants' some, but I'd also really dig something with FATS. I'll prolly have to toss a coin. Getting SOMETHING after Christmas.

Haha, yeah you DON'T want wheat. I'm considering just going out in some mud and rubbing my Rumbles in it, then not washing them, just scratching off the mud. Hopefully they'll be slightly less obnoxious.

I love Brown. Sorry Kage had to be the sacraficial lamb. But it did us a great service to know what looks best (so thanks Kage).

Either way, the Rumbles are mighty comfy - no matter the color.

Well I don't know about them being better than torch .. one is a sneaker .. the other is a comfy boot. Very different.

Haha, no prob. Wheat's grown on me anyways.

Have you been using Rumbles much in vert?

I don't suppose they will be very good for vert. The brakes are mad huge.

I was just goofing off. As you can see, I didn't have my usual gear on .. my helmet wasn't strapped and my laces weren't tied.

The Rumble wheels on the other hand might be good in a pair of torches. But I'm not sure about it.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. I've already done it. I dropped in a bunch but I can't make it up the other side as easily as with regular Megas. Don't know if that's the wheel or the bearings fault.

Update: They're not even "snug" anymore. They just fit like the rest of my shoes.

(Or maybe that's me getting used to them, as I haven't worn anything else on my feet since I bought them..)

My Rumbles finally came today. BeWild came through with my size 11 brown Rumbles 7317. IMHO, they are not as tight as my Escapes were, both size 11. Honestly, I hope they DON'T stretch much, 'cus then they'll be loose. I know how leather works, though. Hopefully I'll be able to lace them tighter as needed until they are fully stretched.

Anyway, I'm loving them so far. The slightly more forward wheels that Slicer mentioned makes it easier for this old man to keep his toes up, and that's a good thing for me. I like the wheels, but since they're so new to me, I don't have a strong opinion on which I like better, rumble megas, or regular megas.

Anyway, for the fun of it, I made an "unboxing" video and put it on YouTube. Not that they're all that new to people, but it was fun to do. Smile

Hey, Slicer, ever consider a YouTube plugin? WordPress has a nifty one that works just like url, and embeds the video.
