Well, I bought this thing primarily for the enjoyment of the local skaters at the park where I live, but they rag on me for not being able to grind my own rail, so here I go..
The rail is two feet long at two feet high, two more feet of kink going down to one foot, and then two more feet of one foot high rail, and I can't grind it for crap. It's a square rail with very slightly rounded edges, and the kinks are fairly abrupt. This thing is difficult for the local experienced skaters to boardslide, and only a couple of them can barely 50-50 it.
And I'm trying to do this with my Evolutions.
Anyone ever tried something like this? |

Yeah .. if you get my video called "Daily Grind" - I hit a 20 ft. kink rail. You'll get used to it soon.
Just remember, for small rails like this - concentrate on getting right on top of the rail. That is, get your weight directly on top of it. It might be hard at first, but this will let you ride longer without tipping off.
Good luck! |

Ah - I just re-read this. Okay. That changes things a tad. You still need to get your weigh above it. But this is harder since its a square rail and you'll have to ride the lip.
So .. try this .. when you land the grind tuck in a bit like a UFO. This will allow you to lean forward a bit more to compansate for the edge. When you hit the kink, ease back.
Let me try to get you a some footage [on an edge], cuz this is a lot harder than on a rounded rail. |

okay - if you're look at the new video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuQrlcYJJOY
You can see two good examples of a kink grinding on a ledge (as opposed to a rounded rail). At position 0:23, see how Brian is leaning inward to get his weight on top of the rail? This is what you need to do to stay on top of it.
Its not much, but I hope it helps.

I see that. Usually when I'm doing that on a coping attached to a solid object, my toes will start scraping the solid object. I've actually got some rubber worn down from that...
It's funny. In trying to grind this and other objects, I've learned another move instead, and I can now do left foot-only grinds for about a foot in distance. Ever do that? Practice for one thing and find you've learned something else?
Oh yeah, for those with trouble visualizing, the kink rail, fully assembled, looks like this:
Maybe an inch and a half or so in width. Picked it up for $60 in Scheel's. |

Yeah, I have a 12 ft kink rail in my garage. But its rounded. Everything's different when you do it on an edge (square).
Its a hard trick. I'm sure you'll get it though. You seem like the type not to give up easy.

Yeah, I just procrastinate instead.
I've got to set this up in my living room, in the center of a huge mass of blankets, clothing, and pillows. |

After doing just that, I have it down pat. Sliding sideways is a major rush. I barely even notice the kink anymore.
The paint's all scraped off the rail now, and my Evos have some additional deep scratches.
Edges + 150 lbs = scratched-up plate. |
