So another park down the tubes, eh?? Kinda sad. This sort of thing seems to go through cycles. We had an old rundown snake run and concrete bowl when I was a wee lad (I'm talking 30 years ago... before I knew what skating was) and it got locked off and guarded. After a few years, it still remained but was sort of 'out of the public eye' so we use to go throw our boards (and in my case, bikes) over the 8' fence and ride till security came. They eventually got tired of chasing us off and built the east coasts most advanced vert half pipe and a miniramp. It was a MONSTER!!! Then they decided to lock that down and threw a chain over it. Of course... bikes roll over chains rather easily so again>> we rode when security wasn't looking. Again, they decided to build an up to the moment park which is still open and a VERY nice park. They destroyed the halfpipe and filled in the snake, but the park remains packed to this day. About a year ago, someone decided the park would look better in charcoal black so they burned it to the ground >ARTICLE<. It's since been rebuilt and better than ever and there is even a NEW addition in the city of a fully concrete park. I'm sure one day, they too will see peril and be shut down and kids will have to find other venues until the cycle returns, but they'll be back.
All in all, I just gotta say hang in there H2. With simplicity closing, it leaves a void for someone with forward thinking to fill. If there is no skate park... someone will build one. |
