my dad is going to buy me a website for my birthday....okay well i havent asked.......but im asking for one. its defff gunna be a heely contest site.

Have a seat and let me tell you a lil' story about how my life almost ended because of too many hands in the pot.

As a few of you know, I run a rather large regional VW/Audi website (which is now a private membership site with about 150members). About a year ago, the site grew to mammoth proportions (over 500 active members) and it was a bit too much for ME to handle on my own. I had a few people I really trusted agree to share the admin duties. It worked out fine for quite a while and since we were a NO HOLDS BARRED forum (allowed anything and everything > if you said it, you had to own it), it wasn't too much to do split between 4 people. Well a lil access to the entire forum got to one of their heads. It was suddenly decided that they black/white/grey forum would turn to HOT PINK!!! Before, you could surf at work without being spotted, then it turned to instantly eye catching from across the room. I got a few complaints and just changed it back to normal. I wasn't sure who changed it so I just figured they'd get the hint if I changed it back. Next thing you know, it's back to pink and the admin access was changed. I could no longer get into my own forum!! I had to log on to another of the admin's pages to access the panel and add myself again. I found out who screwed up the forum and had to lock him out. Also had to change the passwords to every part of my site from every ftp access point to email servers to my own screen name. I instantly got a NASTY text message from the offender who was supposedly upset to the point of him threatening me that he had better not see me around when he had his gun on him. I eventually confronted him (a few months later) and told him that it wasn't cool of him to change all that and all I needed was concensus 1st. Me and him are 'ok' now but not good friends like before. I took all other people off of admin duties and locked down the site from the public (for another reason). Now it's a private little community that you have to be known to be admitted.

What happened here was one of our admins (still don't know for sure which) decided to give admin powers to some other people, and then one of the admins (new? old? it's not logged..) decided to do a rather thorough job of deleting my account and banning my IP.

I could probably have undid everything by hand in the database, but I had a two-day-old backup and was pissed enough to do 33 x DROP TABLE and import it.

People, this isn't fucking Proboards or EZBoard. I have access to the actual guts, that's how I coded the shoutbox. The real keys to the kingdom- the database and FTP passwords- aren't even mine to give away, and I sure as hell wouldn't give those to anyone even if they were.
