I'm much of a street skater, but today, I'm going to try out the skatepark.
I'm afraid to go there, and get laughed at since I have heelys.
Suggestions? |

| Dang mang! That's a tough one. Skateboarders are a tough crowd and alot of them will have nothing but negative vibes. I've had near full grown teens (older > 16+) who shoulda known better poke fun at little kids at the park. I'm old and can easily say "don't let it bother you" and "just ignore 'em" but I can see how they can really add to the stress level. I don't know what to tell you other than if you are gettin 'bad attitude' from the opposition, just tune them out. Hope for the best, though. You never know. Maybe everyone will be cool. You never know. |

| try to go in the morning or on a weekday for your first trip, the park will be less crowded so this day you can get used to trannys, dropping in, etc. when you get better then start going at regular hours, thats what i did. |

This one really depends on where the skatepark is located more than anything else. What's the proportion of fuckheads in your area?
There's a whole lot of shit at the worse ones; many of them are on drugs, or drunk, or just plain assholes.
Other skateparks, it just doesn't exist.
Leave a few unlit M-80s at the bad ones and let Darwin settle things. |

| That's true>> there can be alot of really bad people if you go to a shady area. I use to frequent a rather LARGE halfpipe that was hit or miss. You'de go some days and kids would be huffing paint behind the transitions... other days it was friendly as could be. Best bet is look for something that is put on by an area's 'parks and rec' dept (if you are that lucky) as those are run by responsible adults who aren't in it for profit but in it to HELP kids stay clean and grind/shred as much as possible. I wouldn't recommend going to a private ramp unless you really know the owner. |

My experience was great! I hung out with most of the rollerbladers, as they were awesome, but I learned a few things:
_________________________________________________
Separation:
Rollerbladers/Heelers | Skateboarders/Longboarders
RESULTS:
Hate Skateboaders | Hate Rollerbladers/Heelers
_________________________________________________
I can't really drop in yet, I tried a few times, but slipped, and slid down on my butt. I could do alot of other stuff, though, and I impressed the skaters, as they have never seen a heeler before. I hope I make it popular in my town. |

Alec - That's great!!
When I first skated at Axis and Riverside, I was lucky enough hook up with some cool inliners and skateboarders. They helped me figure out a lot of what we do today (because I was new to skating period).
My suggestion is to just be respectful. Take turns - let people go when its their turn - don't get in the way.
And work hard .. people respect you if you work hard. I used to just be in the corner working my frontside for hours .. Then I would take it to vert and people would be like Whoooaaaa .. can you do that again, dude?
If you're a jerk and always try to push people around .. and you suck .. then that will just give the sport a bad name.

Just say the "grind" video. I've never seen anyone pull off a footy grind before. *Props* |
