Well, as you can probably tell from the post count, I'm new. I've been trying to get some SOAP shoes for years with no success, and then I saw Heelys on a CSI episode (not taken aback by the episode itself, but that's beside the point). So, I go traipsing around the 'net, find out that SOAP were bought by the company that make Heelys, and resolve to buy a pair.

Nine months later, I'm still debating over getting some Embarassed I'm basically here to get some advice and hopefully answers to a few questions, so:

1) I don't consider myself someone with a great deal of balance, so which would be preferable for a complete newb: Rebel/Rocket or styles with Mega wheels?

2) Are Megas interchangable with Big Deuce wheels? I'm getting conflicting answers from pretty much everywhere on this issue.

3) I'm also looking into getting a style with grind plates. What's the average life expectancy (in hours) for the grind plates?

4) On the vein of life expectancy: how quickly does the back of the shoes wear down?

Thanks for any responses, and sorry if I sound like an utter moron.

Welcome to Heelychat!

First, if you have little balance I would recomend mega wheels, considering that you want a grindplate then the two mega wheel and grindplate models are Torch and Evolution

If you get Torches they come with mega which IMO are the best. Evolutions are a more durable shoe but come with big duece, which are slower. Both Mega and Big Deuce are interchangable.

The back of the shoe wearing down really can vary. The higher you hold your heel in the stance the more the heel (or brake) will drag, and if you drag alot I'd say they tear up pretty quickly. Although if you wear down the break it can be better since it allows you to hold your heel however it feels comfortable without slowing down.

Ummm .. life expectancy of grindplates .. i really dont know. The grindplates are made out of Nylon and are pretty durable. I'd have to say it would be pretty hard to brake or completely wear these down. They scratch up easily but that doesnt effect much (Although nothings better than a fresh plate Wink)

1) rockets and rebels.....not comfortable...so that might affect learning how to use them but idk, i only tried rebels and that was a while after i learned to heel, so yeah get something with megas

2) yes, megas an big deuce can both fit into the same type of shoes (mega models)

3) i have no idea but ive had y torches since christmas and theyre still like new

4)it depends on how much u use it (its called the break of ur shoe), if u use when u first start learning it mighht wear down pretty quickly, but its suposed to, and once it gets to the break it wont wear down any more than it has, the break is suposed to wear down

the grindpalte lasts 10000000000000000000000000000 hours! seriously if you only grind rails and well waxed curbs (whar you are supposed to do) then they will last as logn as ur shoes witch will be like forever....
the heel....well i have this "technique" you alternate breakign with both heels and also both front part of the soul (back foot drags) if you alternate often and dont brake for a long time at once then your shoes and souls will last for a very long time...i hope you get what im sayin Wink
