Yeah I'd imagine the Reflex's would be ok for the shock-absorption aspect, at least with the wheels out. Some traceurs think parkour should be done barefoot, since for many it's about the potential of man, unaided, but some who are more into the free-running version believe in whatever kit makes it better, like the shoes aimed at the sport, such as the K-Swiss Ariake, etc. I mean everyone's got their own take on it, and I don't see why you can't make your own brand involving Heelys. Smile

Of course it might make some of the moves more difficult, and some easier... do whatever you want mate, and adapt it however you like. Smile

I tend to be more of a parkour than a free-running person when it comes to that particular art: the original idea behind parkour was "to get from A to B as quickly as possible." You know how people say you have the "fight or flight" reflex, and how martial arts are the art of how to fight unaided, parkour was originally thought of as the art of "flight" unaided (either getting away from, or towards, a place or person as quickly and efficiently as possible). And the philosophy behind free-running was originally thought to be about the tricks themselves, doing it for the fun and sport of it, and to make it look good, rather than out of necessity. So parkour was theoretically about doing it as efficiently as possible, using as little energy, and free-running was supposedly about the aesthetics etc (not that parkour can't be beautiful), at least that's what I got from it. Not sure if that is relevant to what you want to do but I always like to look into the history of stuff and what came before, before I attempt to make it my own. Smile

So, despite Heelys being an aid to movement of a sort, I can see that they could fit either philosophy, as they do seem to aid movement at times, make it take less energy, especially on smooth slopes. Of course at other times the wheel can make it slightly more difficult. Of course I know we heelers don't like to hear it but I won't lie. Smile

As for which Heelys would suit, that's a tough one. If you think you can be good at grinding, maybe grinding could be incorporated at times when it would be the fastest or best looking way to get from A to B, but obviously the grindplate being slippy in a side-side direction could make it a little tougher to land on a rail from a large jump or drop...

Hope this helps. Smile

If you're not going to use your wheels then I would buy shoes specifically for free running. I've tried doing some minor free running stuff, and regardless of the Heelys model, none of them will work well for you. Most of the time, even with the grip, they aren't as responsive as some of the other types of shoes for the sport (meaning they don't bend as easy, they are heavier, etc).

If you decide to put the wheels in then make sure you are learning your forward rolls because with reflex or without them a jump from 6 ft will push that wheel in your heel.

Yeah I'd probably have to agree with everyone above: Heelys are not really the best choice for free-running, unless you've really got your heart set on doing it that way. You've seen my busted Mega that I did whilst doing parkour right? It's the only time at my mere 60kg (gained about 14 pounds lately lol) that I've ever busted a mega: I still don't seem capable of breaking a mega in my normal skating style, but free-running with the wheels in does it every time. Very Happy

Dunno mate, you're probably best to ask on a dedicated free-running forum - that's what I'd do - ask the Pro's Smile

I know exactly what you mean, buddy. Ever since I did a load of running to get fit a year or so ago, my knees have given me hell. Even just normal stuff like walking around town, or even pressing the clutch in the car, hurts like hell. I'd give up heeling in hopes it would give my knees a chance to heal quicker, but I just love it so much. Crying or Very sad

I wish I'd learned about Heelys before this shit happened to me then maybe I wouldn't have bothered with the running and maybe wouldn't have hurt my knees, but that's life eh: who's to question what God's plan is. Sad
