Forgive me if I've asked this before because I have a poor memory sometimes, but I was wondering if anyone knows the name of the kind of flooring they use in big stores like Walmart etc - you know, those kinds of tiles that are perfectly flat and don't have any physical gap or visible grout. . . just 100% smoothness all the way. . . once I know the name of it I'll be one step closer to asking around to getting some installed at home Very Happy

I mean we have some linoleum in the kitchen which is pretty smooth, but not quite as good as the stuff in shops. So, yeah, anyone know what its called? Maybe someone knows someone in the flooring trade who they could ask or whatever? Smile

Thanks again,
ME (Who else) Smile

the cement kind they use at BJ's and those wholesale clubs name escapes me right now and he said no gaps, and that concrete smooth stuff they use at those wholesale clubs have pretty big gaps between every other aisle (Nothing a novice heeler cant take though). So i'm thinking he means linoleum. then again i dont even know if i mean linoleum so i could be calling it the wrong thing.

Home Depot has this machine that sands, buffs and polishes their concrete floors. That's my favorite store to skate in.

Tell ya what I'll have to get a pic of the kind of floor I mean. . . it actually seems to be solid tiles rather than anything that is flexible or sticks down like linoleum. Sometimes they're as small as 8 inch square and sometimes they're a few feet across - they have the look and smoothness of marble, but they must be imitation as that would be seriously expensive to do a whole shop in (*stray thought* hmm, I bet some big royal palaces of the world have some wicked genuine marble floors for heeling on Very Happy )

But yeah, they seem to be tiles, but with no bevel to the edges, and they're laid absolutely perfect with NO visible grout or gap between so it's just non-stop heeling perfection from one end of the store to the other.

I also love those large smooth concrete floors which Emma mentioned, like they have in home improvement or garden centres (dunno what you call 'em in the states, we have ones that sell building materials and plants and stuff for building your house and garden) - they're fine but yeah they do have gaps once every aisle or so, unlike the stuff I'm talking about. Smile

It's still linoleum, it's just smoother for more efficient cleaning/polishing. the stuff in most homes has texture for some reason.

BTW emma, I worked for a concrete company for a while and saw them lay the large smooth concrete squares you were talking about, and even I didn't know what they called that but (iirc) the process of making it perfectly smooth they called "Power floating" - sounds a bit like a Heelys trick huh? Smile

LOL. It's because everyone knows I don't mind - I'm a kind, easy-going host, and all are welcome (yes indeed) at my place Wink
