In my favourite shop this morning, I was doing my shopping, and practising 180s, and after I'd got all my shopping I realised I had forgotten something (chicken and bacon as it happens). . . so I nipped back in to get them, and as I was getting the chicken, one of the security guys came up and asked: "Are you buying anything?"
I was like: "yeah, I've bought all this so far *shows him long receipt* but I just forgot something. . ."
And he says: "Well, we've been watching you on the cameras for half an hour and we've seen you wheelying" (his word, not mine). I suspect he wasn't watching me that closely or he wouldn't have needed to ask "are you buying anything" because I'd already bought a ton of shopping.
But, I said "Yes, as you've seen on the camera, I only do it in the empty aisles - which is possible early in the morning when the shop's pretty empty. I always vacate the aisle if other customers turn up."
So he seemed ok with it, but then this other staff woman over heard the conversation and decided to stick her large ugly nose in, lol, and just came over with "No skating in the store!" and went away again. So, I decided to stop practising my 180s for today. Since I'd been doing them for about an hour I was getting kinda dizzy anyway, LOL.
But I was kinda miffed because I'd already bought most of my shopping, so I didn't get to use the excellent idea of saying "no heelys, no shop" and simply dropping all the goods I was going to buy at his feet lol. Maybe next time, after all, I do spend like £500 (~ $1000 USD) a month there, so that's plenty of stuff just waiting to be abandoned if they do decide to be anti-heely.
I notice he wasn't really too bothered, in fact he looked quite curious about the evo's I happened to be wearing, he probably just got told by his manager that he had to go talk to me and warn me that I "might bump into other customers" - truth is I've been heeling there for a month or two now, for an average of about 7 hours a week, and never bumped anyone so far, and now that I don't fall any more or need any pads even for 180s, I think the time of "risk" with regards to his health and safety concerns is long past.
I fully studied Slicer's guide to safe public heeling, and never speed up to corners etc - at least, not when I'm on two wheels - the car's another matter |

Yeah .. I get yelled at once in a while .. but .. I tend to just ride slow in the malls .. and I'll pop a clean footy 360 everyone once in a while. People who don't want to get hit when I fall give me space (j/k)
A simple nice trick every once in a while lets people know that you DO know what you're doing. My favorite is to skate backwards and talk to my friends (who are walking forwards). I try my best to make it as natural as walking (and the same speed). Then the rest of the time when you're skating slow, they let me be.
I don't think the guards at my local mall even care any more. |

Thats what i do when the space is nice and empty i carry on with my convo then turn back occasionally to make sure the area is clear and i dont run into anyone sometimes my friends get playful and start pushing me so that i go faster. |

Yeah, I once had a friend who is a serious bodybuilder (chest presses like 100kg with relative ease) and he used to like to see how fast he could shove me - have to really lock your legs so you don't land on your face |

Just be careful if you're in the prepared foods department. I was at the supermarket yesterday, and was glad I was sans-wheels (rumbles)... someone had gotten fried chicken grease all over the floor. It was hard not to slip with a full sole on the floor... if i'd had my wheels in, I'd have been on my butt.

1. 90% of my almost-falls on Heelys are from walking, not rolling. On slippery surfaces, you just don't *try* to stop as fast.
2. WTF were you doing in a supermarket without wheels in anyway?! |
