I can do a thing where I am skating forward with my left leg in front, and then quickly swap it for the right before i lose balance so I don't have to stop to swap legs. . . and I was wondering if what I do is called a kickswitch or a shuffle or what?

I don't gain any speed whilst doing it so far, in fact I slowly lose it and can only manage about 12-18 switches before I am too slow to balance and need to stop, so I'm guessing it's a shuffle and not a kickswitch?

Yea Sounds like your doing a shuffle. Kickswitch is when you place your back foot down (Opposite of Lead foot) and push of off it then while im air try to quickly switch so that your Back foot becomes your lead foot. (Should help you gain Speed)

what your doign is a shuffle, merrie.

a kick switch is where you put down your front foot, and kick up your back foot, then do it again for a few times. your feet never leave the ground.

kickswitch video, cause alot of videos have them, but dont actually label what part it is, usually your feet dont lift off trh ground though, you just bring it up on wheel.

*note its in german*

Ok, cool, thanks people Smile

Strangely I've tried the kickswitch, and find that if I want speed I am best to basically run as fast as I can and jump into a glide, but yeah, the kickswitch looks kinda nifty. Smile

try that in the middle of a street run, and see how much speed you keep up Razz

LOL, I know what you mean, sometimes if you don't do it right your front foot plants the toe down and you trip, but I can still do it on the street - did it many times today whilst shopping in the city: all I do if the front foot plants due to a pebble or something is continue the run a little longer and then jump into it again. Smile

lol yeah....that's what I always do to control a fall. It works well to recover, but not as well as a good kickswitch for speed bursts.
