Just letting you guys know about some new nomenclature.

2. the names or terms comprising a set or system.

When you talk about Heeling, there is a difference between "Skating Hybrid" and "Heeling".

Heeling, strictly speaking is that act of using Heelys. This generally refers to what 8 year old kids do in the mall.

The term Hybrid Skating (noun) (or "Skate Hybrid" (verb)), refers to the developing sport using hybrid locotion. This includes Heelys, Street Gliders, Togos, Soaps and others.

There are several reasons why its important to differentiate.

#1 - Heeling has gotten a bad rep for being a kids toy. We want to move away from that image.

#2 - People keep saying 'Heel-y-ing'. And that's just annoying.

#3 - We want to be able to challenge other non-Heelers in competition. Strictly speaking, they don't "Heel" so its not the same thing. But I'd love to meet any of the street gliders in a halfpipe head-to-head.

This is a good move for Heelers. We want to move the this activity towards a sport.

So if you're filming yourself cruising along main street, term your activity "Heeling". That's fine. No sin. If you're popping cool trix and riding vert and grinding, please refer to is as "Skating Hybrid".

You can still put "Heelys" and "Heeling" in your video tags. But change the title to something more progressive.

So corporate is on the offense with regards to popularization among rollerbladers and skateboarders? I doubt a phrase with four syllables is going to beat a phrase with two in common usage, but I'm on board anyway. I'll go add tags to my YT vids now.

But I can't help but think this has the potential to become an epithet. (<-- dictionary.com, kids) Law of Unintended Consequences, etc.

Because what they do- "they" meaning Street Gliderz/togos/pliwz/attachments-of-the-month, push-button knockoffs, and Squalor-Mart knockoffs- can be called "hybrid skating".

Only what we do can properly be called "Heeling".

Actually this whole thing was mostly my idea. But I'm selling it to more and more people. It makes sense because even though Street Gliders and crappies can't technically say they are Heeling, they pretend to. And the public can't tell the difference and sees it all as the same anyways.

This will be the discussion to start educating people.

Here is an example:

Person 1: "I skate" ..
Person 2: "What do you skate? Skateboard?"
Person 1: "No. I skate hyrid."
Person 2: What's "Skating Hybrid".
Person 1: Its skating with shoe/skate hybrids, like Heelys or similiar.
Person 2: Wow. That's a sport?
Person 1: Yeah, its a developing sport. Its kinda like everyone calls "inlining" (which is the sport), "Rollerblading", which is a product.

i am trying to train parents to say heeling instead of heelying, now i have to change it skating hybrid. Sad

this is going to take forever!!

HAHA - the forum filters changes "Heel-y-ing" to "Heeling".

Heel-y-ing and all the variants has always been awkward. And it sounds mighty stupid.

I hate saying .. "I'm a Heeler" .. people are like .. "You're a doctor? A Nurse" ..

Dog trainers are like "You taught your dog to heel?" (that's when the dog walk right next to you on your left).

Other people are like "you're a Heel-y-er"??

Its all awkward.
